4 astronauts reached orbit on a SpaceX rocket after lifting off at 7:27 p.m. from Florida, within the firm’s first common NASA mission to the Worldwide House Station.

The Crew-1 mission marks an important milestone within the growth of an area trade by which private-sector firms present enterprise and tourism providers in low-earth orbit. Following the retirement of the House Shuttle in 2011, NASA awarded SpaceX and Boeing Co. almost $7 billion in contracts to construct new transport techniques to the house station as a part of the company’s Industrial Crew program.
